Plaza Santa Ana 7
A story of aristocracy, art and social life
The story of Santa Ana 7 begins in the late 19th century, when it was built as an urban residence in the immediate surroundings of the Palacio de Santoña, one of Madrid’s great aristocratic mansions. From the outset, it shared the palace’s ambition to offer solid, elegant and distinguished architecture, capable of reflecting the prestige of those who lived there.
Its Neoclassical façade, built in Colmenar limestone above a granite base, conveyed a sense of permanence that was unusual even for its time. The wrought-iron entrance door, marble finishes, fine woodwork and wealth of handcrafted details revealed an exceptional level of care and an unmistakable commitment to excellence.
For decades, the building formed part of a way of life closely connected to social prestige, culture and an appreciation of beauty. It was a place designed for entertaining, conversation and participation in the vibrant intellectual and artistic life that defined Madrid in the late 19th and early 20th centuries.
The extension carried out in the middle of the last century marked the beginning of a new chapter in its history. Over the years, Santa Ana 7 became home to a renowned antiques gallery that attracted collectors, interior designers and art lovers, adding a new dimension to the building’s identity. Later, the exclusive Club Argo transformed its interiors into a meeting place for a generation of Madrileños for whom gastronomy, culture and conversation were all part of the same way of life.
Few addresses in Madrid have accumulated such a rich and varied history without losing their distinctive character. Each chapter added a new layer of meaning to a building that has always remained closely associated with good taste, knowledge and the city’s social life.
Today, following a meticulous restoration, Santa Ana 7 recovers the residential spirit with which it was conceived more than a century ago. A new chapter that restores the building’s original purpose and continues an exceptional story in the very heart of Madrid.
